Taiwan SIM Card Reviews by Phone Travel Wiz

Taiwan is the most progressive country in Asia.

And it is probably the most relaxing Asian country too… at least in my experience 😏.

But I may be slightly biased because I managed to stay in Taiwan for a whole year during the pandemic (March 2020 to March 2021).

As the country was obviously in a lockdown (and it did not open its borders until September 2020), not many tourists were around (except for those who were already in the country and did not want to leave, like myself).

Worry not – I did not overstay my visa (and you should never do so either).

The Taiwanese government was kind enough to extend everyone's visa – even though I would normally have to leave after 90 days (so far, it has extended visas 28 times, aka by 840 days!).

Normally, I do not stay in countries for a whole year – mostly because I have other countries to visit.

But because I stayed in Taiwan for so long, I had the opportunity to extensively test each Taiwanese SIM card.

So I went to ten different cities/counties and conducted more than 300+ speed tests per SIM card (but saved more than 100 only because I tested the SIM card on multiple servers per location and saved the best-performing one).

So unlike most countries I visit, I have in-depth insights I usually do not have (and most other travel bloggers certainly do not have either).

As a result, I am even more confident with my Taiwanese SIM card recommendations than in other countries.

You have five mobile operators and one Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) offering prepaid services to travelers in Taiwan: Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone, T Star Taiwan & GT Mobile Taiwan + Ibon Mobile (Far EasTone MVNO).

In most countries, I do not recommend buying SIM cards at airports because they are often overpriced or are of bad value (compared to SIM cards bought in town).

In Taiwan, I do recommend purchasing SIM cards at the airport (and for two/three Taiwanese SIM cards, airports are the only places tourists can buy SIM cards).

Fortunately, all Taiwanese mobile operators offer truly unlimited data plans for their tourist SIM cards (which is the reason why I could do so many tests – I use like 200+ GB with a handful of the SIM cards I tested – 200 GB of data can costs hundreds of dollars in some countries 😯).

Because of all these factors, my Taiwanese SIM card reviews are more in-depth and extensive than most other reviews, but they should still be an easy read.

Soon I will write a comparison post between the six Taiwanese SIM cards.

So stay tuned for that 😏.
