Can I roam with Mytel?
Both Mytel Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers can roam in 230 destinations. They can roam on Pay-As-You-Go rates or take advantage of the Non-Stop Data Roaming package or the Vietnam Data Roam offer.

What do I need to know about roaming with Mytel?
Mytel customers can roam in 230 destinations around the world, which includes making calls, sending SMS, and use data while traveling. In most destinations, you will be paying Pay-As-You-Go roaming rates. However, in a select few destinations, you can purchase roaming packs that have lower roaming rates than the standard ones.

- Mytel Data Roaming Promotion Package in Vietnam-Viettel
Mytel Non-Stop Data Roaming
With the Mytel Non-Stop Data Roaming pack, you can roam in 6 destinations for 8 Kyats/MB. The pack has a validity of 7 days and has a subscription fee of 1000 Kyats (meaning that you pay 1000 Kyats + 8 Kyats per MB when data roaming abroad).
The Non-Stop Data Roaming pack is available in the following destinations:
- Bangladesh
- China
- Laos
- Malaysia
- Singapore
- Thailand

Mytel Data Roaming Promotion Package in Vietnam-Viettel
With the Mytel Vietnam pack, you can get 1 GB or 3 GB for 2500 Kyats or 6500 Kyats respectively. The data can be used for 3 to 7 days, depending on the package you select. Do note that this offer is only valid on the Viettel network.
Details about the 1 GB data plan:
- 1 GB of roaming data in Vietnam on the Viettel network
- 2500 Kyats (tax included) – 2.44 Kyats/MB
- Valid for 3 days
Details about the 3 GB data plan:

Mytel Pay-As-You-Go Roaming
Mytel subscribers can roam in 230 destinations at standard roaming rates. In some destinations, it is cheaper to roam on specific networks.
Roaming rates range from:
- 125 to 4000 Kyats per minute for local calls
- 125 to 10000 Kyats per minute for calls to Myanmar
- 1500 to 10000 Kyats per minute for calls to other destinations (neither local calls or calls to Myanmar)
- 125 to 2500 Kyats per minute for incoming calls
- 30 to 600 Kyats per SMS
- 15 to 17000 Kyats per used MB
Mytel customers have to manually activate the roaming service as of the 1st of February 2019, which can be done through one of the following 3 ways:
- Send RON to 234 to enable roaming and RDON to 234 to enable data roaming
- Dial *234# to enable roaming (calls, texts, and data)
- Use the Mytel app
To deactivate the roaming service, follow the following steps
- Send ROFF to 234 to disable roaming and RDOFF to 234 to disable data roaming
- Dial *234# to disable roaming (calls, texts, and data)

Can I roam on planes with Mytel?
Inflight roaming is not available with Mytel.
Can I roam on cruise ships with Mytel?
Maritime roaming is not available with Mytel.
Is roaming with Mytel worth it?
Roaming with Mytel is, in general, expensive.
Calls can cost you up to 10000 Kyats per minute, and receiving calls can cost you 2500 per minute. The issue is that these high prices apply to most of the destinations (172) instead of just a select few.
Using data can cost you 17000 Kyats per MB, which is excessive. You would be charged almost 17.5 million Kyats for using 1 GB of data while abroad.
In fact, Mytel is one of the most expensive providers I have reviewed so far, and I have seen some insane roaming rates so far.
However, roaming on standard roaming rates in Cambodia (Metfone), Laos (Unitel), Peru (Bitel), Timor-Leste (Telemor), and Viet Nam (Viettel) is cheap, especially compared to the other destinations. There, you would be charged 125 Kyats per minute for local calls, calls to Myanmar, and incoming calls. Calling to the rest of the world is still expensive at 1500 Kyats per minute, which should be avoided. Sending an SMS would be charged at 30 Kyats while using data would be charged at 15 Kyats per MB. That is a steal compared to the other rates.
Additionally, the roaming packs for Bangladesh, China, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam are packs I would gladly consider if I want to roam with Mytel. I hope they will add more destinations to these offers, as that would make things much cheaper.
If you are out, I would recommend using WIFI hotspots and use internet-based applications such as Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, and Skype to stay in touch with your friends and family.
In short, roaming with Mytel is not worth it unless you roam with specific networks in a handful of destinations. Else, roaming with Mytel should be avoided and getting a local sim or an international sim should be considered.
