Can I roam on planes with Ooredoo Myanmar?
Ooredoo customers can roam on select airlines and planes that have Aeromobile roaming equipment installed onboard. Ooredoo In-flight roaming rates are shown below:
- 7500Ks per minute for every type of outgoing call
- 2000Ks per minute for incoming calls
- 2000Ks per sent SMS
- 28000Ks per consumed MB
- Receiving SMS is free
Can I roam on cruise ships with Ooredoo Myanmar?
Maritime roaming is not available with Ooredoo.
Is roaming with Ooredoo Myanmar worth it?
Roaming with Ooredoo can be worth it in select destinations. In others, it is expensive.
What I do like is that Ooredoo offers roaming packs to popular destinations for Myanmar destinations, which is excellent.
The cheapest data roaming pack is the Rs4999 pack that gets you 2 GB for 3 days in Thailand. Unfortunately, this pack does not offer any minutes or SMS – that would make the pack perfect. But making local calls in Thailand will cost you 500Ks/min and sending texts is 200/SMS.
Data roaming without the pack would cost you 500Ks/MB, meaning that you would be better off getting a data pack if you expect to use more than 10 MB.
The packs that give you minutes and SMS as well start at 15000Ks. However, the minutes and texts you get are quite low. Sure, getting a pack is cheaper than calling and texting on Pay-As-You-Roam rates after some minutes and SMS, but it would be great if Ooredoo gave you more perks for forking out at 15000Ks or 25000Ks.
Roaming on Ooredoo Pay-As-You-Roam rates, however, is something I would avoid.
Those roaming rates will add up quickly depending on the length of your call, the number of SMS you send, and how much data you use. The destinations in the expensive zone, which are Macau, Maldives, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates, will drain your balance quickly.
In these destinations, you will pay 7500Ks/min, 2000Ks/SMS, and 28000/MB. The last things you would want to do is to data roam in these places.
Roaming on planes is also something I would avoid because it is so expensive. It may be convenient to use your phone while on a flight. However, airlines that offer in-flight roaming have WIFI connectivity as well. In-flight WIFI rates are almost always cheaper than in-flight roaming prices.
Or you could stay offline for those few hours to save money – perhaps the best option of them all.
In short, roaming with Ooredoo is worth it in a handful of destinations and select international packs. Roaming on Pay-As-You-Roam rates are high and will add up quickly. However, getting a local sim or an international sim should be considered to keep roaming costs low.
