Israel: 8 Best eSIMs Compared + Discounts (2023)

Israel – the only Jewish country in the world. It is known for its many religious sites, museums & beaches.

While there is plenty to be said about the political situation in the country, it is irrelevant (for this guide) ;)

Despite the fact that some nations in the Middle East are crazy cheap (for travel – that is), Israel is, surprisingly, not so cheap.

Sure, it is much cheaper than many Western or Northern European nations.

Still, many neighboring countries have lower livign costs, especially for travelers.

Be careful with with international roaming though – International roaming can be expensive, which is why using local and travel eSIMs is recommended to save money.

Not only will you save a lot of money by doing so, you do not have to deal with SIM card registration laws, which are often invasive (which includes Israel).

How much will a local or travel eSIM for Israel cost you?

You can get an eSIM for Israel for as little as 5.55 USD to 62 USD from Annatel, Airalo (Annatel), Holafly, Nomad & SimCorner.

I will also introduce you to a few global eSIMs that be used in Israel and 80+ other countries, including Israel's neighbors, for competitive rates.

Airalo Annatel eSIM for Israel

Airalo is probably a name you have heard of when researching travel eSIMs worldwide – perhaps even for Israel.

That is because it is the largest and oldest eSIM platform worldwide, covering around 190 countries (more than any other eSIM platform out there).

Its extensive worldwide coverage attracted me to Airalo early on – even when I did not have an eSIM-compatible phone and had to use my dad's phone for testing purposes.

He did not like me stealing his phone so often… so I eventually got my own 🗿.

Anyway, Airalo has an eSIM that can be used in Israel – it is called Annatel.

It is impossible for Airalo, or any other mobile operator, to operate in every country (and do not trust any company saying otherwise), so they set up roaming agreements.

Yes, I said roaming, but this is not the type of international roaming that will result in a 3000 USD roaming bill – do not worry!

What Airalo does, and basically all mobile operators do, is partner up with a local mobile operator so that their customers can still stay connected when abroad.

In the case of Israel, Airalo's Annatel eSIM uses the Partner Israel network (Annatel is a Partner Israel MVNO) up to 4G/LTE (no 5G NR yet, unfortunately).

Partner Israel Logo
© Partner Israel

Be aware: most travel eSIMs, including Airalo's Israel Annatel eSIM, are data-only eSIMs, so you cannot call or text with them (nor can you receive any calls or SMS).

Anyway, the following five Airalo Annatel Mobile eSIMs are available:

  1. Israel/Annatel 1 GB eSIM for 7 days, costing 5.50 USD
  2. Israel/Annatel 3 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 11 USD
  3. Israel/Annatel 5 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 13.50 USD – very popular with Phone Travel Wiz readers
  4. Israel/Annatel 10 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 18 USD
  5. Israel/Annatel 20 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 22 USDmost popular with Phone Travel Wiz readers
Israel Annatel eSIM Airalo (with Prices)

I can already tell you that Airalo has the cheapest eSIM options for Israel in this guide.

What makes things even more pleasant is that you can top up your eSIM when it is expiring or when you are out of data without the need to purchase a new eSIM.

But you may think that a local SIM card or eSIM will (still) be cheaper than Airalo or any other travel eSIM.

And you are right – that is true in most cases.

However, you will have to deal with the Israeli SIM card registration laws.

Unfortunately, because Airalo is partnered directly with Annatel for these eSIMs, SIM card registration is mandatory with Annatel eSIMs sold on Airalo (or from Annatel directly).

  • Find out which countries have SIM card registration regulations and what is required from you (lookup tool)

Anyway, you should be aware that while you can get up to 4G/LTE connection with the Airalo Israel Annatel eSIM, your speeds will most likely not be faster than someone using a local SIM card.

That is because you are roaming on the Partner Israel network instead of being a native customer.

But that does not mean you will have (extremely) slow speeds – just slower than native customers.

Anyway, the Airalo Israel Annatel eSIM is fantastic and is the eSIM I, and many Phone Travel Wiz readers, recommend the most.

The eSIMs are affordable, the data allowances can be tailored to your needs (1 GB to 20 GB + top-ups are available) & you will have a smooth network experience (in most cases).

SimCorner eSIM for Israel

SimCorner Logo Small
© SimCorner

Wait a minute, does SimCorner not only sell (fantastic) travel SIM cards that get shipped to your home before going abroad, like Israel?

Yes… and no – as of October, SimCorner introduced travel eSIMs as well 🥳.

You may have read my SimCorner Europe SIM card review, which I used in 11 countries in the European Union (and had a pleasant experience with), so I was hyping them up to sell eSIMs too.

It took them a while, as they like to do extensive testing before introducing new products, but here we are.

For Israel, SimCorner has one eSIM: SimCorner Israel 6 GB eSIM for 15 days, costing 36 USD.

Depending on your location, you will be charged in AUD, EUR, GBP, or NZD for your convenience.

Just like Airalo and any other eSIM mentioned in this guide, you cannot use 5G NR (yet) with the SimCorner Israel eSIM.

Moreover, it is a data-only eSIM, so there is no calling or texting.

Unlike the Airalo eSIM and some other eSIMs in this guide, you cannot top up or extend the validity with the SimCorner Israel eSIM.

If you are out of data or the eSIM expires, you have to purchase a new one.

Luckily, getting another eSIM is quick and straightforward, but that does mean you will have to buy at least two eSIMs if you plan on staying in Israel for 30 days or longer, for example.

On the other hand, you do not have to deal with Israel's SIM card registration requirements, which is a big plus!

By the way, use discount code PHONETRAVELWIZ for extra savings (although the link above will give you the best deals available too – automatically).

Holafly eSIM for Israel

Holafly Logo
© Holafly

Holafly is one of the many travel eSIM resellers, but it is one of the popular ones.

Like SimCorner, it used to sell travel SIM cards before entering the eSIM market.

However, its travel SIM cards were criminally expensive (unlike SimCorner, which is still the best and cheapest travel SIM card seller out there), so I did not pay too much attention to Holafly.

But in 2022, they started offering eSIMs – at first, at high prices (not surprised), but the prices have decreased in recent months (which I appreciate).

However, in June, they started offering unlimited data plans for its eSIMs, making Holafly unique.

And these unlimited data eSIMs can be used in various EastSoutheast Asian countries, almost all European Union member states (except for Liechtenstein) & a few other countries, like Canada and the United States.

Unfortunately, unlimited data eSIMs are not available in Israel… yet.

Phone Travel Wiz x Holafly Banner
No unlimited data for Israel (yet)

I say yet because Holafly's goal is to offer unlimited data plans for every country it covers: 100+ countries.

And I can tell you that I get positive emails multiple times a week from Phone Travel Wiz readers that have used the unlimited data plans in East- and Southeast Asia, Europe & North America; they love these eSIMs.

For now, you have two Holafly Israel eSIM (which uses the Pelephone network – the mobile operator with the best network and fastest speeds & Partner Israel network, which has the best 4G/LTE coverage, by the way):

Israel eSIMs Holafly

As expected, you cannot use 5G NR (yet) with the Holafly Israel eSIM, nor can you call and text (it is a data-only eSIM).

Moreover, you cannot top up or extend the validity with the Holafly Israel eSIM – so you need to buy another eSIM when you are out of data or the eSIM expires; you have to purchase a new one.

But to soften the (potential) friction of buying multiple Holafly eSIMs, you can get 5% off each and any Holafly purchase (so it does not have to be the Israel eSIM) when you use code PHONETRAVELWIZ – you are welcome 😜.

Nomad eSIMs for Israel

Another travel eSIM provider I recommend is Nomad.

In fact, I have been in close contact with Nomad as soon as I partnered up with them.

For example, upon my recommendation, it started offering the Nordics regional eSIM – an eSIM that can be used in Denmark, Finland, Sweden & Norway.

Yes, I really try to get the best offers and deals for you 🥰.

Another thing I have been pushing Nomad for, and Airalo and Holafly for that matter, is lowering its prices or increasing its data allowances.

In June, Nomad started offering a 2 GB eSIM variant upon my request for Israel and various other Asian countries (because Phone Travel Wiz readers asked for such an eSIM) at competitive prices.

In August, Nomad dropped its prices again for its ChinaIndonesiaMalaysiathe PhilippinesSingaporeSouth KoreaThailand & Vietnam eSIMs (which are even cheaper than Airalo – that is remarkable on its own!).

So yes, Nomad is looking out for you 👁👁.

You have the following four options with Nomad for Israel:

  1. Israel 1 GB eSIM for 7 days, costing 13 USD/13.50 EUR/12 GBP/18 CAD
  2. Israel 3 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 26 USD/27 EUR/24 GBP/35.50 CAD
  3. Israel 5 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 35 USD/36.50 EUR/32.50 GBP/48 CAD
  4. Israel 10 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 62 USD/64.50 EUR/57.50 GBP/84.50 CAD

Local Israeli eSIM for Prepaid Customers

If you want the best and full network experience, including being able to call and text, you want to get a local eSIM.

You have four/five mobile operators and three Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) in Israel: Cellcom Israel/Golan Telecom, Partner, Pelephone, HOT Mobile, 012mobile, 019 Mobile & Annatel.

Currently, only Annatel offers eSIMs to prepaid customers.

You can get an Annatel eSIM for the same price as a regular SIM card, which is 49.90 ILS (14 USD) at the moment.

For more information about the plans offered by Annatel, check out my Israel SIM card buying guide.

International eSIM for Israel & More Countries

Okay, I went over the Israel travel eSIM options offered by Airalo, Holafly, Nomad & SimCorner + by the local mobile operators (only Annatel in this case).

As expected, these eSIMs can only be used in Israel and not in neighboring Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, or Syria.

So what if you plan on visiting any of those countries, or you are on a world tour and wish to use one eSIM in multiple countries – do you have any other options?

Yes, you do. Airalo, Nomad & SimCorner have regional, global & international eSIMs covering at least 80 countries; some include Israel too.

So let's see which multi-country eSIMs can be used in Israel and other countries, including Israel's neighbors.

Airalo Menalink eSIM

Airalo recently introduced an eSIM for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA): Menalink. The Menalink eSIM follows the popular Eurolink eSIM for 39 European countries, the fairly new Asialink eSIM for 14 Asian countries & the super new Latamlink eSIM for 19 Latin American countries.

© Airalo

The Menalink eSIM comes in three variants: 1 GB/7 days, 2 GB/15 days & 3 GB/30 daysmost popular with PTW readers, to be used in Israel and 14 other Middle Eastern and Northern African countries:

  • Bahrain
  • Egypt
  • Iran
  • Iraq 1
  • Israel
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Morocco
  • Oman
  • Palestine 1
  • Qatar
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Sudan
  • Tunisia 1
  • United Arab Emirates

1 on 3G only

Below is an overview of how much each Menalink eSIM costs:

  1. Middle East and North Africa/Menalink 1 GB eSIM for 7 days, costing 15 USD
  2. Middle East and North Africa/Menalink 2 GB eSIM for 15 days, costing 28 USD
  3. Middle East and North Africa/Menalink 3 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 39 USD – most popular with Phone Travel Wiz readers

Sometimes, it can be more convenient and cheaper to get the Menalink eSIM than the local Airalo eSIM because Menalink offers more data (instead of you having to purchase multiple 1 GB/7 days top-ups to stay connected).

With the Menalink eSIM, you can save a lot of money by skipping the initial SIM card costs per country you visit in the Middle East and North Africa!

Airalo Discover Global eSIM

Discover Global eSIM Airalo
© Airalo

Airalo was probably the first eSIM reseller to introduce a global eSIM, called Discover Global.

This eSIM can be used in 80+ countries, including Israel, often offering up to 4G/LTE coverage in those countries.

Be aware: while you get 4G/LTE access with the Airalo Annatel eSIM (using the Partner Israel network), you only get 3G speeds on the Partner Israel network with the Airalo Discover Global.

Anyway, you have these five Airalo Discover Global eSIMs:

  1. Discover Global 1 GB eSIM for 7 days, costing 9 USD – most popular with Phone Travel Wiz readers

  3. Discover Global 5 GB eSIM for 30 days, costing 35 USD – most popular with Phone Travel Wiz readers

Nomad Global eSIM

The last global eSIM I want to introduce you to is Nomad's Global eSIM.

Like SimCorner, it covers more than 110 countries (including Israel).

But you have more options with Nomad: 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 30 days & 5 GB for 30 days.

While this can be convenient for those who do not need a lot of data… you will still be charged top-dollar for Nomad Global eSIMs.

In fact, the Nomad Global eSIMs cost the same as the Nomad Israel eSIMs, which is almost comical 🥲.

Overview of the Best eSIMs for Israel (Airalo vs. Holafly vs. Nomad vs. SimCorner)

I introduced you to various travel eSIMs that can be used in Israel.

But I also informed you that you can get an Annatel eSIM, which is available to prepaid customers too.

However, you will have to deal with the Israeli SIM card registration requirements (and internet censorship).

These are things you do not have to deal with the travel eSIMs offered by Airalo, Holafly, Nomad & SimCorner.

So, which eSIM do I recommend the most? Here is my recommendation order:

Phone Travel Wiz Approved Seal

Remember to use code PHONETRAVELWIZ for Holafly and SimCorner eSIMs, and code ADU123 for Nomad eSIMs – a code is unnecessary for Airalo eSIM purchases.

Buying a SIM Card in Israel

Want to just use a SIM card but not your current one because roaming will be criminally expensive?

Consider getting an Israeli SIM card instead – local SIM cards are the cheapest way to stay connected abroad.

Or you can get the SimCorner Israel SIM card, which will be delivered to your home before going to Israel – convenient 😏.
