But it is still a relatively cheap travel destination in Europe, which is why it is popular for all types of travelers.
You can, of course, visit the many castles and churches in the country.
Or you could visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine.
Perhaps the many museums, including the well-known Auschwitz.
But if you can, visit Morskie Oko – a fantastic mountain lake with incredible views.
As you can see, there is no reason to be bored in Poland.
But before you post your amazing Poland experiences online, be aware that international roaming can be expensive.
Unless you have an EU/EEA SIM card – then you can most likely roam for free in Poland.
If you use a local SIM card, like a Polish one, you can enjoy local rates and avoid expensive international roaming fees.
So, how much do Polish SIM cards cost?
You can get a Polish SIM card for as low as 3 PLN (0.70 USD) all the way up to 25 PLN (6 USD). However, the average price is 5 PLN (1.20 USD). SIM cards are available at Orange, Play, Plus & T-Mobile stores (also for the sub-brands), or other places, like kiosks/newsstands or Warsaw Chopin Airport.
I know that Play and Heyah always has special features of Ukrainians, but this may have been extended to other mobile operators too.

In this guide, I will go over everything you need to know about buying a SIM card in Poland. Let’s do this.

What is the Best SIM Card in Poland?
If you want to buy the best SIM card in Poland, I recommend going with Orange, Orange Flex, or Nju Mobile. Orange is the best mobile operator. Orange Flex is a hybrid plan with attractive plans. Nju Mobile is an Orange sub-brand targeting the youth (but anyone can get its SIM card) with low prices.
So, who are all these mobile operators and what options are available for you?
Poland has four mobile operators and 11 Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) offering prepaid services easily accessible to tourists:
- Orange Poland (Orange Polska)
- Play Poland
- Plus Poland
- T-Mobile Poland (T-Mobile Polska)
- a2mobile (Plus Poland MVNO)
- Fakt Mobile (Play Mobile MVNO)
- Heyah (T-Mobile Poland sub-brand)
- Klucz Mobile (Plus Poland MVNO)
- Lycamobile Poland (Plus Poland MVNO)
- Nju Mobile (Orange Poland sub-brand)

In this guide, I will stick to the mobile operators and the most popular MVNOs, all in bold above, to limit the length of this guide (but also not to overwhelm you with all the options available).
But if you are interested in getting a SIM card from one of the unbolded MVNOs, you would have to do the research yourself for the time being. I stopped actively testing and reviewing MVNOs to spend time reviewing travel eSIMs instead, like the ones for Poland.
Anyone 13 or older living in or visiting Poland can buy a Polish SIM card without restrictions, but you do have to comply with the Polish SIM card registration regulations.

Which, in this case, is only showing your passport at the point of sale.
Where Can You Buy an Polish SIM Card (+Costs)?
You can get a Polish SIM card in Orange, Play, Plus & T-Mobile stores (even for sub-brands and some MVNOs) or other retailers, including grocery stores, electronic stores & convenience stores (also for the MVNOs). Some Polish airports sell (tourist) SIM cards (at inflated prices).
You can expect to pay the following for Polish SIM cards:
- Orange Poland (Orange Polska): 5 PLN
- Play Poland: 5 PLN – 25 PLN
- Plus Poland: 5 PLN & 15 PLN
- T-Mobile Poland (T-Mobile Polska): 5 PLN
- Heyah: 5 PLN

- Orange Flex: (truly) free in Orange stores, 3 PLN from resellers

(Travel) eSIMs for Poland
In recent years, (travel) eSIMs have become extremely popular.
Especially after Apple made iPhones (14- & 15 series) sold in the United States eSIM-only, forcing its users to use eSIMs – even when abroad.
As a result, the adoption of eSIM technology by mobile operators worldwide rose impressively quickly.
Currently, Orange (Flex) Poland and Plus Poland offer eSIMs to prepaid customers.
But if you purchase an eSIM from any of these mobile operators, you must comply with Poland's SIM card registration regulations.
Suppose you do not wish to do so for privacy reasons (for example) or want to be connected immediately without paying for an overpriced SIM card (or eSIM) sold at an Polish airport. In that case, you may consider getting a travel eSIM for Poland.

Orange Poland, just Orange but officially Orange Polska, is the largest mobile operator in Poland.
It is also the mobile operator with the fastest speeds.
Honestly, it is the best Polish mobile operator in all aspects.

You can buy an Orange SIM card for 5 PLN with 5 PLN credit (valid for 31 days) and 6 GB of data (valid for 14 days) in Orange stores and various other stores, including grocery stores, kiosks & gas stations throughout Poland.

While Orange has various SIM cards (Orange Free, Orange Smart & Orange Yes), it does not matter which starter pack you choose if you plan on using a bundle.
SIM card registration can be done at Orange Poland stores (preferred), post offices (recommended), or kiosks and newsstands by Inmedio, One Minute, Relay & Ruch.
It is also possible to get an Orange eSIM for free (for the first five transfers).
You can consider getting a travel eSIM for Poland, which can, in specific scenarios, be cheaper than getting a SIM card from Orange.

Play Poland, just Play, is the second-largest mobile operator in Poland.
It is the newest mobile operator in the country, launching in 2007, and managed to grow quickly.
It has been the largest mobile operator for a while. But both Orange Poland and Play keep battling for that title.
Since 2020, Play has been part of the French Iliad group – known for its attractive prices in its markets.
Play uses the following frequencies:
- 2G: 900 MHz & 1800 MHz
- 3G: 900 MHz & 2100 MHz
